For the multimedia there is a Mac Mini in the glovecompartment with speech recognition.
Why? and how?

The why:
To impress people? To have a mediacenter in the car? To watch movies/dvds/tv on long trips? Listen to a lots of mp3’s?
Thats why :)

The how:
you need some basic things:

- a plan (where to put the computer and screen)
- screen (sun visor),
- cable/connector (to draw screen power to battery and /or to a cigarett lighter contact),
- mac mini (of course),
- 12V DC to 230V AC converter for the mini (mine comes with cig. lighter connector),
- apples dvi to video adapter (to connect mini and screen),
- BT mouse/keyboard,
- eventually a 12v cig-lighter splitter (to connect more cig-lighter connectors),
- a lot of patience (if you want to hide the cables)

Speech recognition

The Mac Os X operatingsystem has acctually
[ => built-in speech recognition and speech synthes].

But that unfurtunally doesn't work with the mac mini (think it has something to do with the sound chip).
So, what to do? For the speech recognition I got the 3rd party software called MacSpeechDictate and after a short voice training I can now open every *.app file in the Application folder with the 'open' command. Just say "open iTunes" :-)
With the power of Applescript you can do a lot of things. I have an Applescript (saved as a *.app file) that controls iTunes with the play, stop/pause and next track functions.
I have even a script named fox.app and when i say "open fox", the car introduces itself by talking back.

The say-command activates the default voice of the speech synthes of your mac os x.
Pretty cool!
